COVID-19 Vaccination

  • We are an official coronavirus vaccination pharmacy and administer the Comirnaty (Pfizer) / Spikevax (Moderna) vaccine.

  • A booster vaccination is possible at the earliest 6 months after the last vaccination or a Covid infection.

  • The vaccination is subject to a fee and is only intended for persons aged 16 and over.

We administer the Pfizer Comirnaty vaccine for coronavirus. Vaccinations with Spikevax (Moderna) are available on request, as procurement is limited due to storage conditions.

Please note that a doctor's prescription is required for pregnant women. We are not permitted to vaccinate people with type 1 diabetes, immunosuppression, autoimmune diseases or those undergoing cortisone therapy at the pharmacy.

Tick Vaccination (FSME)

  • Tick vaccination at the Schlossapotheke Thun.

  • The tick vaccination is the best protection against TBE viruses.

  • TBE viruses can cause meningitis, which is untreatable.

  • At the Schlossapotheke, you can get vaccinated professionally and without waiting times.

Ticks can transmit TBE viruses, which can cause meningitis in humans. As there is no effective treatment, vaccination is recommended for people who spend a lot of time outdoors or live in a risk area.

The tick vaccination consists of three doses:

  1. 1st vaccination: basic immunisation (usually in winter)
  2. 2nd vaccination: After 2–4 weeks – approx. 95% protection
  3. 3rd vaccination: After 5–12 months – protection for around 10 years

The vaccination is very well tolerated. Mild reactions such as redness or sensitivity at the injection site are possible and usually subside after 1–2 days.

Cost: 71CHF per vaccination

Duration: approx. 10 minutes

Diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis (dTp) vaccination

  • Provides protection against serious bacterial infections and prevents complications
  • Regular booster vaccinations (dTp) provide long-term protection in accordance with the vaccination schedule
  • A tetanus booster may also be advisable following an injury (we will assess the risk)

The vaccination against diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis is one of the most important basic vaccinations. Several booster vaccinations (dTp) are recommended in adulthood.

Schedule for booster vaccinations:

At the age of 25: 1 dTp vaccination

Aged 26–65: 1 dTp vaccination every 20 years

Aged > 65: 1 dTp vaccination every 10 years

A tetanus booster may also be indicated following injuries. Please contact us so that we can assess the risk together.

We ask anyone who has not yet been vaccinated, or anyone with an unclear or incomplete primary vaccination schedule, to register by telephone (033 222 45 51) for catch-up vaccinations (dTp-IPV vaccine recommended). It is never too late to start a vaccination or to continue a vaccination schedule that has not yet been completed.

HPV vaccination

  • Provides protection against human papillomaviruses (HPV), which can cause cancer and genital warts, amongst other conditions
  • Particularly recommended as a routine vaccination for 11–14-year-olds (for girls and boys)
  • Catch-up or supplementary vaccination is possible depending on age – the dosage schedule depends on when vaccination began

Vaccination against human papillomavirus (HPV) is recommended as a primary vaccination for girls and boys aged 11–14. If the vaccination was not administered at this age, it is recommended as a catch-up vaccination for those aged 15–19 and as a booster vaccination for those aged 20–26.

A 2-dose schedule applies for those aged 11–14. A 3-dose schedule within 6 months applies for those aged 15–26. If the first dose was administered before the age of 15, the 2-dose schedule may be used.

Meningococcal (ACWY) vaccination

  • Protects against invasive meningococcal infections (primarily serogroups A, C, W and Y)
  • Supplementary vaccination for infants and adolescents – catch-up vaccination possible up to the age of 20
  • Recommended for people at increased risk or with increased exposure; a booster dose is recommended every 5 years if the risk persists

Meningococcal vaccination is recommended as a supplementary vaccination for infants and adolescents. Catch-up vaccination is possible up to the age of 20 (1 dose of Menquadfi).

In addition, the vaccination is recommended for people who, for medical reasons, are at increased risk of invasive infection or are exposed to an increased risk of exposure. If the risk remains constant, a booster vaccination is recommended for these groups every 5 years.

An increased risk of exposure exists, for example, for:

• Laboratory staff working with meningococci

• Individuals following close contact with a case of invasive meningococcal disease (IMD) of serogroups A, C, W or Y (post-exposure prophylaxis)

• Recruits

• Travellers to endemic areas (duration of travel > 1 month) or epidemic areas (even for short stays)

• Depending on the season, also for travellers at risk, particularly for serogroups A, C, W and Y

Since 2022, vaccination against meningococcal serogroup B (4CMenB vaccine, Bexsero®) has also been recommended for these indications (bookable separately) – with the exception of contacts of a single MenB IME case (no effect on colonisation) and travel indications

Rabies vaccination

  • Recommended for children and adults at increased risk of exposure – as well as following possible contact (post-exposure)
  • Prevention before travel or high-risk situations: 2 doses depending on the situation (3 doses for immunocompromised individuals)
  • In cases of ongoing or repeated risk, a booster is recommended after 12 months

The rabies vaccination is recommended for people at risk of exposure and following exposure. Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) comprises 2 doses regardless of age (3 doses for immunocompromised individuals). If the risk of exposure is ongoing or recurrent, a single booster dose is recommended after 12 months.

Shingles (Herpes zoster) vaccination

  • Protects against shingles and can significantly reduce the risk of complications
  • Recommended for everyone aged 65 and over, as well as for certain at-risk groups
  • Two doses of the vaccine are required for reliable protection (Shingrix®)

The shingles (herpes zoster) vaccination is recommended as a supplementary vaccination for everyone aged 65 and over. It is also recommended for at-risk groups: from the age of 50 for those with immunodeficiency, and from the age of 18 for those at very high risk (e.g. severe immunodeficiency). Vaccination is carried out using the adjuvanted subunit vaccine Shingrix® in two doses administered at least two months apart – regardless of whether the person has previously had chickenpox or shingles, or has already received a previous zoster vaccination.

Further information can be found in the booking details.

Pneumococcal (PCV-20) vaccination

  • Protects against serious infections caused by pneumococci (e.g. pneumonia, septicaemia, meningitis)
  • Recommended for infants and, as a booster, for everyone aged 65 and over and people at increased risk
  • For most target groups, 1 dose of the vaccine (Prevenar 20) is sufficient – depending on previous vaccination history, a booster may be advisable

The pneumococcal vaccination is part of the recommended basic vaccinations for infants. Three doses are administered during the first year of life. A catch-up vaccination is possible up to the child’s 5th birthday.

The vaccine is also recommended for everyone aged 65 and over, as well as for people under 65 with certain underlying conditions that increase the risk of severe pneumococcal infections. In these cases, a single dose of Prevenar 20 is usually recommended.

Anyone who has previously received Prevenar 13 or Pneumovax can receive a booster dose of Prevenar 20, provided at least one year has elapsed.

The vaccination is particularly recommended for the following risk groups (selection):

  • Heart failure (NYHA class III/IV or higher)
  • COPD (GOLD stage 3 or higher)
  • Severe asthma
  • Cirrhosis of the liver
  • Absence or impairment of spleen function (asplenia)
  • Severe renal failure (stage 4 or higher) / nephrotic syndrome
  • Diabetes affecting the heart, lungs or kidneys
  • Coeliac disease (new diagnosis in adulthood)
  • Certain cancers or chemotherapy
  • Before or after an organ transplant
  • After a haematopoietic stem cell transplant (special regimen applies here)

Chickenpox vaccination

  • Provides reliable protection against chickenpox and reduces the risk of severe illness
  • Recommended for infants and as a catch-up vaccination for people up to the age of 40 (particularly if immunity is lacking)
  • Two doses of the vaccine, administered at least one month apart, are required for full protection

The varicella vaccination is recommended for infants aged 9 and 12 months. A catch-up vaccination is recommended for children and young adults up to the age of 40 (particularly for those planning to have children) if they have not had chickenpox or have not yet received two doses of the vaccine.

The vaccine is also recommended for people at increased risk of complications or transmission (e.g. those with immunosuppression, those in contact with at-risk individuals, or healthcare and nursing staff). If the measles, mumps and rubella vaccination series is not yet complete, the combined MMRV vaccine is used where possible.
